There’s no sport more American than baseball, but has the beloved pastime forgotten its fans? Mike DeLucia calls on his team to pay more attention to its followers than its cash flow in Boycott the Yankees, a biting critique of the team he worships.

DeLucia advocates that fans boycott the team until it lowers ticket prices and shows them a little more respect. He rallies against what he considers an obsession with ego and greed.

Like many kids in New York, DeLucia grew up playing baseball with his friends and pretending to be a Yankee. He collected baseball cards as tributes to his favorite players, savoring rather than trading them. He cherishes the history of the game but traces how corporate America came to be the one cashing in on the home runs, charging higher and higher ticket prices to cover the costs of players and their demands.

It’s a labor of love as he calls on fans to stand together and force baseball to return to its roots a game dedicated to the people in the stands instead of the cash in their wallets.

Boycott The Yankees A Call to Action by a Lifelong Yankees Fan eBook Mike DeLucia Reviews

This is a terrific book by an extremely knowledgeable, diehard Yankee fan. The author sees, very clearly, the insidious problem with MLB. More than that, he offers a solution. The issues raised, not only apply to professional sports, but to our lives as consumers. It tears away the altruistic mask of the corporate mentality and shows us what's really going on. Not to be missed.
I am one of Mr.DeLucia students and the book is great. He is right more people should read this and boycott the Yankees. I go to his period 7 and its lit!
This book is not just for Yankee's fans; it's for any fan of baseball. While DeLucia takes apart the Yankee's greats and their owners and management, his critiques and praises could apply to the histories of many teams. What team hasn't made a bad deal, paid too much for a big ego, felt the frustrations of mismanagement? I especially like that DeLucia doesn't just whine about it, he offers real and rational solutions to every problem. Then he tells the reader exactly how to help their team! What a great and original premise for a book. The final short story also made me tear up. Great book for any baseball fan!
Mike Delucias book brought me back to the bronx growing up. He describes my childhood perfectly. I too grew up loving the Yankees, checking the boxscores daily. I was a former season ticket holder who got pushed out by the exact corporate greed that Mr Delucia talked about in the book.
Sad to say I havent been to a game in years. I hope Mr Delucia's book resonates with the fan base as it did with me. I hope enough people will
"Boycott the Yankees" to a point where maybe, just maybe, it will raise a few eyebrows and change things.
Overall a great read which will bring you back to a time when the players and the fans had a true connection. .
I'm not a regular sports fan, but I loved this book because it brought back the golden era of the Yankees and the players I rooted for around 2001, and it also presents the players, managers and coaches as fallible human beings with great flaws and great talents. Mr. DeLucia's style is compelling, and you can't put the book down once you start to read. Recommended for all baseball fans or other sports enthusiasts!
Although I'm not as huge a fan as the author I agree with him 100%!!
I have two daughters, and even though they never watched a baseball game or knew anything about it, about 12 years ago they begged me to take them to a Yankee game. It had been a few years since I was there and I gave into their request knowing they would be bored by the bottom of the second inning. I was right and we only lasted another five or six innings before it became to torturous for them and my wife.
I'll never forget that between ticket prices, parking, food and souvenirs it cost me over$300 for that miserable day. For me that was the end.
I swore I would never spend another dime at that park. And so far I've stuck to it.
It should not cost a family $300 to see a baseball game!!! I know it's probably double that now.
There will be plenty of naysayers but I believe if we're all persistent and get behind Mike this cause will gain momentum.

On another note, the last chapter, "The Baseball Game brought me to tears".
I felt so much like the main character. The sentence " I felt anxious and out of place. Literally prayed to God that the ball wouldn't come to me"
hit me like a lightning bolt. Although it didn't happen on the field I've had countless experiences like that. We probably all did but Mike expressed it in such a creative and emotional way that it hit a chord and I burst into tears while reading it on the train ride home from work. This short story of a Bronx kid who always played second fiddle to his older brother on and off the ball field was worth it on its own.
Mike DeLucia's book says what so many Yankee fans have always believed but never dared to say out loud. It covers all the bases from the excitement of attending Yankee games to the passion for pinstripes to the eventual disappointment experienced by current and former ticket holders everywhere.
